Women Leading and Learning

Registration is now open for “Women Leading and Learning,” a free Montana State University leadership workshop to be held from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31. The event features panelists MSU President Waded Cruzado, Bozeman City Mayor Cyndy Andrus and Bozeman City Manager Andrea Surratt. A complimentary reception will follow the 90-minute training. Carmen McSpadden, director of the MSU Leadership Institute, which is hosting the workshop, said that for the first time in Bozeman history, three women hold key public leadership positions in the Bozeman community. She said at the workshop the leaders will discuss personal and professional stories about learning and leading in the public. “Much of how leaders mobilize others is by creating trust -- and a willingness by the leader to be vulnerable helps their team turn challenges into innovations,” McSpadden said. McSpadden will facilitate the workshop, joined by Amelia McGrath, a MSU Leadership Institute student staff member. McSpadden said workshop panelists and participants will explore techniques for vulnerability, how to be open to ideas from others and how to let go of assumptions. Open to students, faculty, staff and the public, sponsors include MSU Office of the President, City of Bozeman, Department of Political Science, MSU Women’s Center, Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons, ASMSU, Office of the Provost, Office of Student Engagement, Emerging Leaders Living Learning Community and KGLT.
