“Blesseds” Oil Paintings Exhibit by Noah Massey
“Blesseds” Oil Paintings Exhibit by Noah Massey
March 1 – June 10 Emerson’s Weaver Room
The Emerson presents a solo exhibit of oil paintings entitled “Blesseds” by Bozeman artist Noah Massey. Her Weaver Room exhibit opens on March 1 with a public reception on May 13, 5-8 pm in conjunction with ArtWalk. The artist will present a gallery talk at 6 pm.
Noah Massey describes her work as, “Utilizing contemporary graffiti styles and items of modern fashion. The paintings draw a comparison between modern existence and that of the beatified who lived from the 2nd to 11th centuries. They create a psychological space that is abundant with pain but free of panic, the place where decisions of fate and faith are made.” It is her desire to create paintings that seduce the viewer into believing that impossible challenges and trials can be overcome, even by the weakest of us. These stories of martyrdom, torture and temptation demonstrate, in the extreme, the equality of all mankind in suffering.
Noah Massey is a Montana born painter who recently established a studio practice north of Bozeman. In 2009 Noah earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where her fascination with religious art and art history deepened and became incorporated with her studio work. As a teacher Noah emphasizes the need for familiarity with the chemistry of a non-toxic painting process and rigorous study of classical painting techniques. She is actively involved with mentoring young artists in Montana, Wisconsin and California, as well as exhibiting her own work on a national level. Massey will be teaching a class at the Emerson during our spring session.
