MSU Fall Student-Led Events
Montana State University has over 200 student-led organizations. Some of these clubs are academic, some are athletic-based, some are focused on helping the community and some are just for fun. Many MSU clubs have interesting events going on throughout the year, and a lot of these happenings are open not only to students but to the Bozeman community as well.
Take, for example, Students Against Sexual Assault (SASA). SASA is a club that focuses on and celebrates healthy relationships on the MSU campus and within the community. Their members believe in education and awareness as methods for the prevention of sexual violence. SASA will be hosting an ‘80s Dance on September 15th. Put on your leggings and get the school year off to an excellent start. Show up at the SUB ballrooms at 8pm.
Interested in fashion? You’ll appreciate Engineers Without Borders’ (EWB) main fall event. EWB is involved with “an interdisciplinary international development project focusing on water and sanitation in rural Kenya.” To raise money for their cause they are having their annual Junk 2 Funk recycled fashion show again this fall. If you are an MSU student interested in participating, you can still register. Email lb_evertz@yahoo.com with designer and model information and get ready to walk down the runway! For anyone interested in taking in the show from the stands, be at the SUB ballrooms on September 24th. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show will start at 7:00pm.
Want another dance opportunity? MSU’s Queer Straight Alliance (QSA) is having their annual Coming Out Drag Show and Dance on Saturday, October 8th. The drag show will start at 7pm and the dance will follow; the fun lasts until midnight. QSA is “a student organization devoted to developing community, fostering education, & empowering action.” Members are “diverse individuals who share the belief that Queer people are equal members of the MSU community.” QSA is also hosting Halloween Dances with DJ Kris Moon, Missy O’Malley and DJ YMB at the SOB Barn on campus. These two dances will take place on October 28th and 29th. Keep up with QSA on their Facebook page “QSA MSU”.
Another group prepared to offer a good time is the Friends of Local Foods (FLF) club. MSU FLF’s goal is “to raise awareness about local foods & encourage sustainable lifestyles on campus & in the community.” Their 2nd Annual Culinary Cabaret will be at the Emerson Cultural Center on November 3rd at 6pm. This is a major fundraiser for the club; all proceeds will go to helping FLF start up their new Mobile Farm Stand that will open next summer.
This is just a small sample of the events offered year-round by clubs at MSU. For a full list of student groups and contact information go to http://montana.edu/studentactivities/clubs.php
