Camp Equinox is now accepting registration and scholarship applications for its 17th year of the Summer Theatre Day Camp

The camp is held at Bozeman Summit School (formery called Learning Circle Montessori), at 3001 West Villard, in Bozeman.

Camp Equinox offers two separate month-long sessions for kids going into grades 1 – 8. Session I is held from June 11 – July 5 and Session II which is held from July 23 – August 16.Camp runs from 8:30 – 3:30 (except Fridays which end at noon). A fiesta of learning includes acting, musical theatre, comedy improvisation, Shakespeare, dance, puppetry, play writing, hip-hop, costume and set design, and much, much more. Most of all, Camp Equinox is a fun and creative community where kids’ talents are nurtured, and where the community encourages team spirit and confidence-building in a supportive and enthusiastic atmosphere. The goal is to give students the opportunity to meet challenges, explore their creativity, and see their success in final performances. The positive growth that takes place through the performing arts is thrilling.

Camp Directors Katie Goodman & Soren Kisiel, a husband and wife team, have been directing and teaching together since 1989. Camp Equinox imports teachers from around the country and are thrilled to have back most of last year’s staff as well as some great new staff and teen interns.

A warm and entertaining Morning Meeting begins each day. This is a chance for the community to regroup, enjoy short skits presented by fellow campers or teen interns, sing together, and learn what the day’s schedule will bring. The campers are then split into groups by age for the Morning Workshops. Each group is named after a theatrical lighting instrument. “Mini Spots” are kids going into grade 1 & 2 (the Mini Spots is a half day program ending every day at noon), “Footlighters” are those going into grades 3 & 4, Ghost Lights are those going into grades 5th, “Gels” are the 6th graders, and “Cycloramas” are the oldest group, going into grades 7 & 8. These morning hours are devoted to a vast variety of exciting workshops to build skills. After a brown bag lunch, the campers pick offerings in “Directed Free-Time” where they can choose to join in the group game or sport, or work on a creative project, such as a scene with friends in the community room or extra time with an art project in the art room. The afternoon is time for organized rehearsals of scenes and musical numbers with staff directors or a special performance and workshop with a guest artist.

The Camp Scholarship program offers varying scholarship amounts to families in need. These are financial need-based awards. Camp Equinox has never turned anyone away with a financial need based on United Way guidelines. Please call immediately for a scholarship application.

Camp Equinox culminates in a giant final performance at the end of camp for family and friends. They are also featured in the Sweetpea Festival every year performing a smattering of their favorite musical numbers.

This summer theatre camp is being presented by Camp Equinox. The Bozeman Summit School servies only as the venue for the event and is not responsible for any content of any part of the event or programming.
