Quiz Show: How Many Noses Do Slugs Have?
Every Thursday night at Colonel Blacks in Downtown Bozeman local DJ Missy O’Malley sets bar trivia off with the Colonel Blacks Quiz Show. “I have been hosting trivia at various places around Bozeman for the last 2-3 years. I developed the Colonel Blacks Quiz Show on Thursday nights to appeal to the young-hip-quick witted-fun loving crowd.” says Missy. “The questions aren’t old and stuffy. We have general knowledge, throw back questions, picture rounds movie quote rounds, music knowledge, mix match questions, specifics ie animals, currency, sports, finish the line.. etc etc.” How many times will the average American walk the distance of the equator in their lifetime? Where was the 1st Barbie Doll manufactured? Name the 4 types of animals with scales.
The environment is intended to be one of learning, a place for people to come to have fun and enjoy time with their friends. On average 8-12 teams consisting of anywhere from 2-10 people show up to correct each others answers, like elementary school, “pass your papers one to the left” style. The host is often challenged, participants laugh and everyone has a good time. Drinking, laughing and learning. Challenging your pal’s wit. Busting out your knowledge of the periodic table of elements and distances and measurements what could be more fun? Prizes. Prizes are fun. $40 cash for 1st place. $20 off bar tab for 2nd and 3rd is a 6 pack of Bozone beer & cool prizes (hats, jewelry etc) from Nightlife (behind Cactus).
Missy comes from a rather large family, number 4 of 6 kids. Her mother grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island, NY and her father in Fergus Falls, MN making for unique personalities and family dynamic. The family enjoys games of all kinds, from Trivial Pursuit to Pictionary, Scategories to Monopoly, they also love Showtime.
“Being the Irish Norwegian Catholic storytelling, joke topping, chit chatty family we were, it was hard to get a word in edgewise. My mother is a speech teacher at Bismarck State College, writes many speeches for local politicians, the governor, community events etc. As a child she would make us watch Academy Award Acceptance speeches and critique them. My goal at the age of 7 was to host the Oscars. “
Missy is currently working on developing a game show. Her goal is to be the first successful female game-talk-variety show host.
Join Missy and usual suspects every Thursday night at Colonel Blacks at 321 E Main St in Bozeman for the Quiz Show beginning at 8pm and stick around for spinning vinyl to follow suiting the theme of the quiz.
