SpeKatlaS

SpeKatlaS is a collaboration of creation that started in 2006 in Honolulu HI, with artists Scott McGann and Duban Guerrero. The majority of their work is done in a cooperative style, working on pieces together and trading them back and forth. In 2010 the two artists moved to Bozeman (Scott’s hometown) where they formed a band of the same name and mantra. As Duban puts it, ‘Spekatlas represents those times when everyone shares in the present moment :  creating in all available mediums,  from paint to music, speks collect in the atlas of our lives”.  Spekatlas has a very wide perspective to their art… Letting the painting paint itself… rarely setting out to paint something in particular. Scott and Duban have each developed their own unique style and then through open experimentation and collaboration have learned to combine these styles into the special SpeKatlaS format.

The cover photo “Free Distraction” is a painting about the endless forms of obstacles that one must go through before you can really see the present moment. It was painted with acrylic on canvas.

Currently both artists work at Bridger Bowl during the ski season with band mates Jesse Collins and Levon Carey, where they continue their vision of expressing the present moment with visual art and music. “We are painting and creating music to remind ourselves to see through the superficial realities in the manifesting moment and seeing with all eyes wide open”.  Going forward they hope to record an album with the band, and continue to create visual art, incorporating the two together in their creative vision. You can find them playing around town usually performing at the Haufbrau and the Filling Station.
