The City of Bozeman and the Good Neighbor Committee are proud to announce the first annual Good Neighbor Awards.
The awards, which will recognize City of Bozeman residents who are making exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in the Bozeman community, are the City’s and Good Neighbor Committee’s way of celebrating National Good Neighbor Day.
According to Allyson Brekke, city neighborhood planner, the idea of a ‘good neighbor day’ was started by Lakeside, Mont. resident Becky Mattson in the early 1970’s. And in 2003 Senator Max Baucus, sponsored a successful resolution to make Sept. 28 National Good Neighbor Day.
“We thought it was pretty exciting that the concept of a “good neighbor day” came out of Montana,” said Brekke.
The City will be accepting nominations now through Sept. 11. And an event will be held at the Story Mansion on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 26, to celebrate award recipients.
To nominate a good neighbor, visit www.bozeman.net/neighborhoods or contact Brekke at abrekke@bozeman.net or 406-582-2274 to receive a nomination form.
“Bozeman is full of people who are going above and beyond to make our community a great place to live. The Good Neighbor Awards will allow us to thank these ‘good neighbors’ for all they do,” said Mayor Sean Becker.
