Elephant Revival

Brian Ripple

Where words fail... music speaks.
That simple line atop Elephant Revival’s Facebook page contains only five words, but reveals volumes about the band’s reason for being. Music unites us in ways that no other medium can. Even when we don’t understand one another’s languages - we can be moved by a rhythm, soothed by a song. Brought together by a unified sense of purpose - the spirit of five souls working as one, in harmony, creating sounds they could never produce alone.

The five souls in Elephant Revival are Bonnie Paine (washboard, djembe, musical saw, stompbox); Bridget Law (fiddle, octave fiddle); Charlie Rose (banjo, pedal steel, guitar, horns, cello, double bass); Dango Rose (double bass, mandolin, banjo); and Daniel Rodriguez (guitar, banjo, double bass).

This Nederland, Colo., quintet are, needless to say, quite a sound to be experienced - especially when they fall into the pocket of a groove containing elements of gypsy, Celtic, Americana, and folk.

BM: For people unfamiliar with Elephant Revival, could you please describe your music.

Dango: The music of Elephant Revival could possibly be described as music which takes its influence from the experiences we all share in our lives.  It is our goal to create space for the music to come through us without the attachment of ‘this is mine or this should be that.’   Rather, understanding that expression itself is a gift that we all share.  Expressing our gifts outwardly into the woven tapestry of infinite potentials and experiences of life, is an objective that we are grateful to share.

BM: Who are some of your traditional and contemporary influences?

Dango: Most importantly I’d say that some of our biggest influences are our contemporaries… Such as Gregory Alan Isakov, Fruition, The Shook Twins, Lake Street Dive, Rising Appalachia, Nahko & Medicine for the People, Mandolin Orange, The Barr Brothers, Gipsy Moon, etc...

BM: What other things influence the band outside of music?

Dango: The River, Solar Power & The Northern Lights.

BM: What can people expect from your upcoming show in Bozeman?

Dango: A mix of songs from all of our studio albums, as well as some new cuts from our recently released live album, Sands of Now. Since we’re currently in the studio finishing up our next album…perhaps some tracks off of that too. We’re so excited to be coming back to Bozeman!!! Thank you all so much!
