Glenn Specking has been around aluminum trailers—fondly referred to as “Silver Bullets” or “Canned Hams”—most of his life. When he was a child, his parents owned an Airstream that he helped maintain.

After 37 years of managing the Engineering department of a 600-room Alaskan luxury hotel, Glenn returned to Montana to live his lifelong dream; in 2013, he and his wife, Terri, started GT Services, LLC, Vintage Trailer Works. 

“We know these things inside and out,” Glenn says, referring not only to vintage trailers, but all types of travel trailers.

With metalworking craftsmen and a cabinet maker on staff, GT Services can handle the most demanding and difficult trailer upgrades. “Our techs are the best in the business” Glenn says.

GT Services’ shop in Townsend can accommodate up to four trailers at a time, where they are restored, repaired, upgraded and modernized to customers’ specifications - from frame-off restorations to small repairs. In addition, they offer safety upgrades such as new hitches, produce complete high-end custom interiors,  appliance repairs, winterization and de-winterization, flooring installation, water leak testing and repair, polishing services, parts sales, and repair and replacement for floors, windows, countertops, and cabinets. GT Services also repairs and upgrades plumbing, electrical, and shell-to-frame connections and is also a Zamp Solar dealer, offering solar power systems specifically designed to fit the curves of Airstream trailers. They also have the ability to customize trailers for use in business.

Another specialty of GT Services is upholstery. Terri reupholsters trailer furniture and creates vintage-looking quilts and draperies to custom fit any model. GT Services is also a Zip Dee Awning Dealer, authorized to service your existing awning or supply you with one that’s brand new (with hundreds of vintage or modern fabrics to choose from).

Although Glenn has always had a passion for vintage trailers, he says he never dreamed that there would be so much interest in restoring them. People nationwide and in Canada have found GT Services through Google and through word of mouth. Some clients have come from as far away as Arizona, Iowa and Nevada. 

In state, residents are probably familiar with GT Services’ handiwork, whether they know it or not. There’s a good chance they’ve passed a refurbished trailer on the road or seen one on display. In 2019, they’ll be taking trailers to lake shores and campgrounds around the state. These will be fully furnished (down to the beach towels and wine glasses) to provide viewers a taste of how much fun life with a vintage trailer can be.

In fact, the Speckings love vintage trailers so much that in 2014, they started a second business operating out of one. Flying Cloud Coffee Company, LLC is a state-of-the-art food and beverage facility housed inside a 1954 Airstream Flying Cloud. When Glenn and Terri bought it, every window was broken and it was covered in moss. It took two years of loving restoration to create this gem. You’ll see it at fairs and events across the state, offering a full selection of espresso coffee drinks, homemade soups and salads, Montana’s Best Pulled Pork Sandwich, and gourmet four cheese mac & cheese in a bacon bowl. 

In 2018, Flying Cloud Coffee Company will be at the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale, Red Ants Pants Music Festival, Headwaters Country Jam, Rockin’ the Rivers, the SLAM Festival, Eastern Montana Fair, and numerous local events.

GT Services Vintage Trailer Works is located at 32 Riley Road in Townsend. They are now taking bookings for the 2017-18 winter season.
