Originally from Bismarck, ND, artist Mitch Sander moved to Bozeman in 2010 to play in the mountains and begin his art journey. He always enjoyed art, and doodled on school work, but never looked at it as a serious career path. As a self-taught artist, Mitch began to paint on canvas and display his work at local events, coffee shops, and breweries. After painting for some time, he also picked up wire wrapping and wood burning. A few years later, he learned to use spray paint and has a few murals in the area, one being Neptune’s Eatery in Livingston, in collaboration with Griffin Foster.

Last year, Sander completed his Endangered Species mural for Craigshead Institute, his large-scale version of this month’s cover art! Mitch has also started to create digital art, mainly creating logos and graphics for businesses. His work has also been featured on a new line of skis made by Heritage Lab Skis.

Mitch’s work is often recognized for its bold, clean style, though he is always trying different techniques and styles. “Having so many creative outlets helps me stay inspired when I feel burnt out from one specific form of art,” he states.

He has continued to display his art around town in local businesses, including Inner Alchemy and Zocalo Coffee House in downtown Bozeman. He also has works displayed at 406 Brewing, located in Manhattan.
