October Cover Artist: Kelley J Sullivan

Kelley J Sullivan is a Bozeman-born, self-taught mixed media painter whose work is rooted in the landscapes, weather, and emotional memory of Montana. Rather than painting specific places, Sullivan uses familiar elements of the Western landscape—mountains, trees, horizons, moons, and changing light—as a way to explore memory, connection, absence, and the things that seem to stay with us.

Her paintings are built slowly through layers of acrylic, texture, charcoal, and drawing media, often shifting between recognizable landscape and something more dreamlike. Subtle details emerge through the layers, allowing the work to unfold gradually rather than reveal itself all at once.

Sullivan’s work has been exhibited in Montana and across the country, including shows in Los Angeles, Detroit, and Winston-Salem. She is represented by Cello Gallery in Bozeman and Corwin Galleries in Hamilton, and is a member of the Montana Born Art Collective.
