Tom Murphy Slideshow
Renowned Livingston photographer Tom Murphy will be at REI on Thursday, January 2 for a special slideshow he calls "Lines, forms, shapes, textures, and edges in nature around the world." Primarily known as Yellowstone Park's preeminent wildlife and landscape photographer, Tom's eye for shapes and forms is obvious in his inspired abstract images of snow drifts, reflections, ripples, ice, and animal tracks. He has done several previous presentations at REI on Yellowstone and Antarctica, but this will be his first on abstracts.
Tom has led tours and taught workshops in and around Yellowstone National Park and leads photography tours to other worldwide destinations, including Alaska and Antarctica. His photographs have been used both editorially and commercially in numerous publications including Life, Architectural Digest, National Geographic, Audubon and Time. He has done assignment work for Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, and Esquire among others.
Tom's first book, "Silence and Solitude, Yellowstone's Winter Wilderness", won a 2002 Montana Book Award. His video, "Silence and Solitude", produced by Montana PBS, earned an Emmy nomination for his photography and videography. PBS Nature's show "Christmas in Yellowstone" first aired nationally in 2006 and features Tom's winter photography and backcountry skiing stories. It is aired internationally each December on PBS.
Seating is limited and preregistration is strongly encouraged for this exceptional presentation (rei.com/bozeman). The show will start at 6:30 pm on January 2. For more information call Teresa at 587-1938.
