Barn Quilt Workshop

Suzi Parron, author with Donna Sue Groves, of the book Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement will talk about barn quilts and the quilt trail at the Bozeman Public Library on June 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The Bozeman Public Library Foundation and Quilting in the Country are co-sponsors of this event.

Parron has spent the past year traveling the country speaking to groups and quilt guilds about barn quilts and the many other painted quilts that make up the quilt trail. The American Quilt Trail is a collection of hundreds of painted quilts - both those that are part of an organized trail and those that have been painted by individuals to decorate their property. There is no formal registry as such, but the number of documented quilts has grown past three thousand.

Parron will take us on a journey along the quilt trail, beginning with the very first barn quilt, which stemmed from Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother's quilting art. Parron’s hour-long presentation features over one hundred stunning photographs of barn quilts, some of which rival cloth quilts in their intricacy. The program is both informative and entertaining, as Parron explores the way in which our quilting heritage takes on new meaning as this movement continues to expand.

Quilting in the Country will host a workshop the following day, June 18, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., for those who want hands on experience of making a barn quilt.  For workshop registration information, please call 587-8216.

Books will be available for purchase and signing during the presentation at the Library. The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, please call Sarah DeOpsomer at  582-2425 or email programs@bozemanlibraryfoundation.org.
