BLANK SLATE an ongoing collaborative discussion among artists

Dates:  11 July – 15 August 2014

BLANK SLATE invites six local visual artists and one writer to continually work and improvise upon imagery and words in the gallery throughout the course of one month.  A phrase on each wall will loosely guide the imagery, and artists will work on paper as well as extend their work directly onto the gallery walls.  Participating artists will respond to these phrases, and play off each other’s imagery, likely returning to find their previous work transformed and elaborated upon by their fellow artist-collaborators.

This show explores the process and experience of collaborative art making as a means to activate the gallery space and engage artists and our community in a unique creative experiment. Blank Slate will give us the opportunity to witness artistic process in action, and experience the evolution of ideas via a continual discussion.

Local visual artists include Allie Buck, jROD Eastman, Duncan Kippen, Claire Rose Kleese, Noah Massey, Hannah Uhde, and writer Mike Finkel.  They will have selections of their individual work on display in the Emerson’s Lobby Gallery throughout the course of the BLANK SLATE exhibit.

Blank Slate work from the Jessie Wilber Gallery is available for sale throughout the course of the exhibition via an ongoing silent bidding structure, and 100% of the sales will support Emerson Exhibits and Education programs.
