The Starry Night: Art, Commentary and Music

Soprano, Elizabeth Croy and pianist, Julie Gosswiller (MSU music faculty) are joined by MFA graduate candidate, Jackie Meade to present an interdisciplinary lecture recital, featuring "The Starry Night" by Jake Heggie. American composer, Jake Heggie pulls together texts from Van Gogh's letters and poetry by Anne Sexton and Emily Dickinson and creates an expressive song cycle that explores the meaning of life, death and the power of art and music. The program will begin with slides and commentary on the life of Vincent Van Gogh followed by the performance of the 25-minute work.

Commentary on Vincent Van Gogh and American poets Anne Sexton and Emily Dickinson precedes a performance of the song cycle "The Starry Night" by American composer, Jake Heggie.
