“Up on the Rooftop” Holiday Concert

“Up on the Rooftop” is local singer/songwriter and contemporary jazz vocalist Jake Koelzer annual holiday concert in Bozeman, now in its fifth year. The concert will include a compilation of original music, holiday favorites, and covers inspired by winter themes. The first two years the holiday concert was held at Jake and Jeni Fleming’s Recording Studio, Flick the Fly Productions. Similar to a house concert setting musicians played to an intimate audience of 70 plus. This is the same studio where Koelzer recorded his debut album, “Quarter Two Three”, and where he now teaches music lessons with Jake Fleming. “The album served as the culmination to my time as a private student with Jeni and Jake, Jeni co-arranged and Jake co-produced. The Flemings are still prominent figures in my adult life, musically and personally.” says Koelzer. The following two years the concert was held at the Gallatin Gateway Inn to make room for a larger audience, and it was the perfect space in which to perform holiday music. Sadly, the Gallatin Gateway closed last year and the event’s fifth year was skipped. For the December 2014 concert good friend Katy Wing offered her space at The Loft Spa and the holiday concert series has been resurrected. “I called up my band (individuals playing on my new album) and invited Jeni to join me for a couple holiday duets and background vocals. This show, in particular, is an important show for me. I recently graduated from MSU and will be moving to Portland in May, so I’m not sure when I’ll have the chance to play with my mentors, Jeni and Jake on the same stage again.”

Tickets for the “Up on the Rooftop” performance are on sale at the Loft Spa and jakekoelzer.com, doors open December 12 at 6pm for the ArtWalk with music to follow.
