Guitarist, Michael Videon will perform a faculty recital on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:30 pm in Reynolds Recital Hall on the MSU campus.

 Videon will present a program of solo guitar works from the mid 20th century, bringing together music by composers of four nationalities: Alexandre Tansman from Poland, Federico Moreno Torroba from Spain, British composer Lennox Berkeley and Frank Martin from Switzerland.

 The program will feature four pieces from the middle part of the last century when the classical guitar was experiencing a renaissance of sorts. The guitar's repertoire was expanded and enriched during this time by an increasing number of established composers writing for the instrument who were not guitarists themselves - these four among them.

 Tansman's Cavatina (1951) and the Castles of Spain by Torroba (1969) are both pieces which display a classically influenced and folk inflected lyricism. In contrast, the more harmonically adventurous musical language of Berkeley's Sonatina, Op. 51 (1958) and especially Martin's Quatre pièces brèves (1933) represents a decisive break from tradition in guitar music from this period.
 Michael Videon is an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Music at MSU where he directs the guitar program.

 The cost for the recital is $10 general admission and $5 for students. Reynolds Recital Hall is located in Howard Hall across the street from the duck pond.
