Kiln-Formed Glass Course

ABOUT THE CLASS: We will meet once a week for 3 hours. During this time you will be introduced to new information, shown samples, engage in discussion of possibilities and then make your work to go in the kiln. Each evening you will have something new to take home and something new to place in the kiln. Classes will be Tuesday evenings. If you are unable to attend the entire evening you are free to leave at your convenience. All tools will be provided for you. Glass will be a small additional cost (details below). Within the first two class meetings I will ask each student for a list of colors they would like to use and explore. I will place this order so that each student will be exploring the glass of their choice for projects. Who is this class for? Anyone. You are not required to have a design background. This course is for anyone interested in learning about the numerous layers involved in design thinking and making with glass. You do not need a degree or history with glass. You only need a passion for exploring the material of glass while learning a new skill set. Additional to the work you will create in glass I will assist you in better understanding composition and having a critical eye when designing. I am more interested in helping you efficiently explore ideas rather than teaching techniques, although you will learn many. As you can see, if you look through my own personal work, I have no specific aesthetic, rather my interest lies in testing the possibilities within the material to communicate to the viewer. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Hello my name is Tad Bradley. I am an educator, an architectural designer and an artist and fabricator. I received my Masters of Architecture in 2003 and ever since have split my time and energies between architectural practice and teaching. For the past decade I have been teaching design fundamentals, architectural design, graphic design, portfolio design, typography, psychological affects of space and the craft of fused glass to undergraduate and graduate students. Currently two of my public and permanent sculptural designs can be seen on the campus of MSU (Gaines Hall and the Danforth Garden). Previously this class has only been offered to graduate architecture students. I am now offering the course to anyone interested in learning about glass, composition, craft and design. The class size will be smaller than ever before and I will be able to offer far greater individual instruction. Students will be guided through fundamental understanding of kiln-formed glass to more complex possibilities within the material leading to a final design project. COST: $1750 paid in full or $365/month paid through braintreepayments.com or paypal *One-time additional fee of $250 for glass [you choose colors]. Tools and all other materials will be provided [wet belt sander, wet angle-grinder, hand-lapping materials]. FOR MORE INFORMATION: http://www.tadbradleydesigns.com/2016-glassclass/
