Martin Luther King Day Celebration

The 2016 Martin Luther King Day Celebration will be a pecha kucha-style event, with multiple short presentations from community members on various aspects of MLK’s legacy, history, and present day implications. The MLK Day event will take place at the Emerson’s Crawford Theater on January 19th, 2016 at 6:30 pm. It is free and open to the community. The pecha kucha format is such that speakers show 20 digital images that advance automatically every 20 seconds while the presenter speaks about an idea, story, initiative, or project for 6 minutes and 40 seconds. For Martin Luther King Day, we have invited speakers to present inspirational stories of Martin Luther King, share creative perspectives on the civil rights movement, examine social justice issues, and express what MLK Day means to them personally. Presentations may be artistic, thought-provoking, serious or funny, a new idea, an old idea re-presented, surprising, or profound. This event is sponsored by the Bozeman Martin Luther King Day Organizing Committee (with representatives from the Bozeman Public Library, the Human Resource Development Council, and the Pecha Kucha Bozeman Committee), the MSU Diversity Awareness Office, and the MSU Leadership Institute.
