Wilderness and Rafting the Alsek River

Beginning in the SW Yukon Territory, the Alsek River runs through the core of one of the largest contiguous blocks of protected wilderness areas in North America, eventually emptying into the Pacific Ocean. It is both a rafter’s dream and a logistics nightmare. Most importantly, it contains some of the most breathtaking scenery on the continent. Clients on this guided trip are warned they will be full-on participants, an adventure that is the antithesis of “cushy.” Roger Jenkins, a veteran of literally hundreds of wilderness trips, will share photos, experiences, and recommendations for not only surviving but thriving on this type of trip. “Wilderness and…” is a series of lectures recommended for area newcomers, families, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone with a passion for wild places and protecting Montana’s wildlands. This program is free and open to the public and will take place at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 16 in the Large Community Room of the Bozeman Public library, 626 East Main Street, Bozeman.
