The lush, colorful work of painter Lance Whitner will be featured at Altitude Gallery during downtown Bozeman’s July Art Walk. Infused with elements of the natural world, Lance’s vibrant, impressionistic paintings depict the grasses, flowers, aspens, and animals in the rugged landscape around her Colorado home. Using a loose, intuitive technique she layers shapes and colors to create richly textured, dreamlike scenes. Playful shifts in perspective pull the eye from one area to the next, and deceptively simple images often hide layers of underpainting, patterns and marks that draw the viewer in for a closer look. Lance lives with her husband, 3 kids and several animals in a purple house in Steamboat Springs. With the mountains and studio out the back door, she is able to divide her time between working in her studio, finding inspiration outside her door, and playing with her family. The reception will be held in Altitude Gallery, at 134 E. Main Street. Lance will be doing a live painting demonstration during the artwalk.
