Hops & History: The Heat is ON
July 26th - The Heat is ON: Malting in Montana
featuring Bridger Brewing Company
Celebrate wheat beers, their origins and their future. From delicate Pilsners to hefty Stouts, beer and ale drinkers can all appreciate a well malted grain bill in their glasses. This month, we will look at the history and process of malting grains and how today’s craft (and industrial) brewers use this ancient method of bringing out the best in barleys and other grains. Dr. Tom Blake, Professor Emeritus, Plant Breeding and Genetics, and former Director of the MSU Barley Breeding Project for more than 30 years, will share how Western Feedstock Technologies Inc. makes malt as Big Sky Malts and builds the Montana Malters line of small malting systems.
