August Art Walk Featured Artist: Rachel Pohl

Bozeman artist Rachel Pohl grew up skiing, climbing, and adventuring in Montana’s wildest places. She also grew up drawing and painting constantly (sometimes to the detriment of her schoolwork.) It is natural that as an adult she would combine the two loves in one. Her vibrant, wildly colorful landscapes are snapshots in paint of the places Rachel loves to explore. Rachel’s multiple outdoor pursuits provide a unique look at some of our nation's most beautiful places, showing places most people only see in photographs. Using vivid colors and undulating lines, her paintings provide us a lens through which light, wind and water move differently and senses are heightened. In her work one sees more, and differently, than a photograph might show. Although still in her early twenties, Rachel recently starred in an Imax movie about our National Parks with fellow outdoor adventurers Conrad Anker and Max Lowe. She recently completed a large mural for the city of Ogden, Utah and when she’s not adventuring or painting she spends her time teaching art and volunteering with at-risk youth in Bozeman where she resides. New work featuring scenes from the Bozeman area as well as wildernesses further afield will be on display at Altitude Gallery during downtown Bozeman’s August Art Walk. Rachel will also be doing a live painting demonstration during the Art Walk.
