Fire and Water Art by Marla Goodman

Paintings and drawings by Marla Goodman on the theme “Fire and Water” are featured this August at Wild Joe’s Coffee Spot. Goodman, a Bozeman artist, created the series using found vernacular photographs as inspiration, and adding her own quirky vision. In her series, which includes large, nostalgic oil drawings and small acrylic vignettes, flames of anxiety encroach on idyllic moments. Goodman, who grew up in a rural area south of Bozeman, acknowledges a connection between her bucolic upbringing and a love of tranquil subjects, but says she feels compelled to add anxiety to “tell the whole truth.” “Sometimes I try to paint pretty things” she explains, “but those little flames of worry keep sneaking in.” Goodman’s “Fire and Water” series will hang at Wild Joe’s Coffee Spot, 18 W. Main, throughout August, with a reception during the August 12 Downtown Bozeman art walk. Additional works and information are published at goodwerks.wordpress.com
