Dream Big: Engineering Our World

Two showings of Dream Big: Engineering Our World will be held at the Ellen Theater on March 4 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The film showcases the creativity, commitment and compassion of four engineers while exploring engineering accomplishments around the world. Anyone interested in engineering is invited to attend these free and all-ages events.

Michael Berry, assistant professor in Montana State University’s Department of Civil Engineering, along with Shari Eslinger, an engineer at local engineering firm KLJ and vice president of the Montana Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, will introduce the film.

After the film, MSU engineering students will lead hands-on projects, including building domes out of marshmallows and toothpicks. MSU students will also showcase a simulated Mars rover they have designed and built for the NASA Robotic Mining Competition that will take place in May at the Kennedy Space Center.

Dream Big is narrated by actor Jeff Bridges, directed by Academy Award-nominated Greg MacGillivray, produced in partnership with the American Society of Civil Engineers and presented by Bechtel Corporation.

The film event is part of the Bozeman Film Society's Science on Screen series, underwritten nationally by the Coolidge Corner Theater and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and co-sponsored locally by the Montana section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, KLJ Engineering, the Western Transportation Institute at MSU, the West Region Transportation Workforce Center, MSU Extended University and the Montana Girls STEM Collaborative.

“Many students have never considered engineering as a career only because they have no idea of the range of opportunities that engineering offers,” said Susan Gallagher of the Western Transportation Institute at MSU. “Events like these can open their ideas to a new world of exciting possibilities and we are thrilled to be a part of this collaborative effort.”

The 45-minute film is rated G. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and doors open 30 minutes prior to each showing. Parties of 10 or more can request reserved seating by emailing lisa@bozemanfilmsociety.org.
