Local writer Johanna Prindiville

Local writer Johanna Prindiville will read from her memoir "No Rain...No Rainbow" at the Country Bookshelf. "No Rain...No Rainbow" recalls the laughter and tears shared by a family struggling to survive in rural Ireland, during the country's early years of independence. (1930s and 40s) As a storyteller, Prindiville transports her audience to a time when extended families sipped tea, ate home-made bread fresh from the fire, talked of mending thatched roofs and told tales of leprechauns and banchees. Song, dance and Ireland's 2,000 year old passion for storytelling are the engines that drive this time of magic. They bring back the excitement of youth, played out in games of mischief and adventure. Written in the most intimate terms, cloaked in wit,"No Rain...No Rainbow" is a portrait of life that rings delightfully and utterly true. A reception will precede the reading and book signing.
