Old Main Gallery will host a solo exhibition featuring new works by Pamela Kendall Schiffer. Schiffer's approach to the sublime and expansive American West parallels the work of the Tonalist painters of the early 20th century who avoided the majestic, spectacular views of the previous generation in favor of a more reductivist and intimate composition that evokes a poetic mood. The Tonalist style employs a distinctive technique by the use of color's middle value as opposed to stronger contrast and high chroma. This results in an understated and compelling overall effect.
