Art Opening Reception: Martha Rotella

Plein air painter Martha Rotella will exhibit her oil paintings in the Atrium Gallery at the Bozeman Public Library May 1 through June 29, 2018. The Bozeman Public Library Foundation, sponsors of the exhibit, will host an artist’s reception on Friday, May 4, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, free and open to the public.

Rotella is best known for her expressive impressionistic landscape paintings that reflect her deep connection to nature. “Most of my paintings begin as small oil or watercolor sketches. These are field works that I use as reference for larger paintings to capture the light, mood and atmosphere at different times of day throughout the seasons,” explains Rotella.  “Painting outdoors, absorbing the sounds, the smells, the changing weather, brings an emotional and expressive quality to my paintings.”

Originally from Florida, Rotella graduated from Valdosta State University in Georgia with a degree in Fine Arts.  She left her southern roots to settle in Montana in 1980.  After pursuing a different career path for several decades, Rotella has returned to painting and devoting more time in her studio in the past 5 years.  Her work has been exhibited in Florida, Georgia and Montana.

The exhibition will be on display during Library hours.  A percentage of sales will go to the Bozeman Public Library Foundation to ensure continuation of cultural programs at the Library for public benefit.  For more information about the exhibit or opening reception, please contact Sarah DeOpsomer at (406) 582-2425 or sarah@bozemanlibraryfoundation.org.
