Bozeman Symphony - Baroque Workshop Faculty Concert
Baroque Music Montana and the Bozeman Symphony present the Period Performance Workshop, specifically for modern instrument performers, hosted by First Presbyterian Church, August 24th-26th. Workshop faculty will present a free concert Saturday, August 25th beginning at 7:30pm, at First Presbyterian Church (26 W. Babcock St., Downtown Bozeman). A second free performance featuring workshop participants will be held on Sunday, August 26th, at 4:00pm presenting chamber and orchestra works from the baroque period, also at First Presbyterian Church. Both performances are free and open to the public.
Entering its third year, workshop participants will spend three days examining original manuscript sources, conventions of baroque style as it relates to modern instruments, improvisation, and historical cultural context. The workshop is led by Artistic Director Carrie Krause and members of the I-90 Collective, comprised of busy baroque soloists, who perform extensively across the country and abroad with many of America's leading period-instrument ensembles. Their faculty performance on August 25th at 7:30pm will include: Virtuoso divisions and Country Tunes from the English Baroque, Handel - Trio sonata in F op. 3 no. 2, Galliard - Sonata in D minor for bassoon, Geminiani - The Bush Aboon Traquair, and The Country Lass from "The Art of Good Taste in Music."
Joining the I-90 Collective is London harpischordist Benedict Williams, baroque bassoonist Nate Helgeson, and Bozeman's own Breana McCullough on baroque viola and viola da gamba. Originally from Bozeman, McCullough held leadership roles in orchestra and band at Bozeman High School, performed with the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Choir, and held a volunteer internship with the Symphony. As aspiring classical musician, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, becoming a founding member of the Campanile String Quartet and a principal player of the Concordia Orchestra. She would later transfer to the University of Colorado pursuing a degree in performance which will soon be completed.
