Burton K. Wheeler Center Lecture

David Clay Large, senior fellow at the Institute of European Studies at the University of California, Berkeley and co-director of the university’s Austrian Studies Program, will lecture about contemporary populism in Europe at a Burton K. Wheeler Center lecture set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the Larkspur Room of the Hilton Garden Inn in Bozeman.
 
“Return of the Repressed: Today’s Populism in Europe in Historical Perspective” will focus on the emergence and current prominence of right-wing populism in Europe and the origin of these sentiments through the course of the 20th century.
 
Large is a former history professor at Montana State University who is currently the Roger Boas Professor of History at the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco.  Large has also taught at Smith College and Yale University.  He is the author of 10 books including his most recent, “The Grand Spas of Central Europe: A History of Intrigue, Politics, Art and Healing,” a social and cultural history of the grand spas of Central Europe. Large is also a consultant and scriptwriter for BBC, PBS, NBC Sports and various German networks.
