The Stradella Incident
Baroque Music Montana presents a program of music from the court of Louis XIV to Venice to Savoy, surrounding the devious and passionate life one of history's most colorful musicians. As Stradella stayed just one step ahead of the assassins that pursued him most of his days, he lived a thrilling paradox as one of Italy's most famous musician yet a fugitive, living in the shadows when not entertaining Popes and princes. After a narrow escape from death at the hands of one jealous husband’s hitmen, the head of the house of Savoy enlisted her nephew, Louis XIV, to punish the goons. Divine art from a diabolic source makes for a compelling story, and BaMM illustrates one of the more exciting episodes in music history with Stradella’s incomparable chamber music, alongside some thrilling theatrical bits of Lully.
BaMM presents historical chamber music in intimate settings. Gathered from across the nation, period instruments performers include Carrie Krause and Adriane Post, baroque violins, Annabeth Shirley, baroque cello, Nate Helgeson, baroque bassoon, and John Lenti, lute.
