An Evening with Jeannette the Musical
A continuation of WMPAC’s relationship with a Broadway-bound musical about one of Montana’s most celebrated historical figures. An epic pop musical based on the true story of America’s first Congresswoman, Jeannette electrifies the life and history of suffrage activist, social worker, and Montanan Jeannette Rankin. Elected to Congress in 1916–three years before women were granted the right to vote– Jeannette finds herself as the only female voice within the halls of power to vote on women’s suffrage. Written by America’s most produced playwright, Lauren M. Gunderson, and pop sensation Ari Afsar, Jeannette heralds one person’s radical voice in America’s ongoing journey toward equal rights for all.
This unique weekend looks into how Broadway musicals come together, featuring excerpts from the show, new orchestrations by Grammy and Tony-winning orchestrator and music producer Todd Sickafoose, and live performances from the creators and local Montana-based performing artists. Directed by Erin Ortman, an NYC-based director, creator, and equalist with roots in Helena, Montana.
Cost: $10-25
