MSU Student Research Celebration

Montana State University will host its spring Student Research Celebration from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5, in the Strand Union Building ballrooms. The event is free and open to the public.

The celebration, organized by the MSU Undergraduate Scholars Program, will feature the work of both graduate and undergraduate students from a variety of disciplines across all colleges. More than 160 students will present their research posters and offer explanations and results to the Bozeman community.

Two poster sessions in the SUB Ballrooms will showcase the students’ work. The morning session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a reception from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The afternoon session will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Student Research Celebration allows the campus and community at large to gain an understanding of the hard work students do every day, according to Colin Shaw, director of the Undergraduate Scholars Program.

“I am always amazed at the variety and quality of research and creative projects in all disciplines,” Shaw said. “It’s really a testament to how much students can learn and contribute by engaging with the research mission of the university.”

Student research topics include cybersecurity, bacteria, watershed contaminants, mental health issues among college students, solar microbursts, and volcanic rocks in the Greater Yellowstone Region. A full program will be available the week before the event and can be found online at montana.edu/usp/student_research_celebration.html.

This is the first time the spring Student Research Celebration has been held in person since 2019. The event was held virtually in 2020 and 2021.
