Bravo! Big Sky Music Festival
Join the Arts Council for the second night of the 11th annual Bravo! Big Sky Festival, a free concert in Len Hill Park featuring the Big Sky Festival Orchestra and the Rhythm Future Quartet!
The first night of the festival on Friday is a ticketed performance with Abigail Kent (harp) performing with an intimate string and woodwind ensemble. Tickets for this show will go on sale soon.
On Saturday, August 6, there will be a concert doubleheader with free performances from the Big Sky Festival Orchestra, with Maestro Peter Bay, and the Gypsy-jazz sounds of the Rhythm Future Quartet. Beethoven’s exuberant and life-affirming Symphony No. 7 heralds the return of the full Big Sky Festival Orchestra. Aristophanes’ satire The Wasps is set to music by Vaughan Williams, and his delightful Overture begins the evening. Special guest harpist Abigail Kent is featured in French composer Germaine Tailleferre’s Concertino, and Bravo! pays tribute to Music and Artistic Director Emeritus and legendary award-winning composer/conductor Eric Funk with a performance of his ballet music, Rhayader.
Boston-based acoustic jazz ensemble the Rhythm Future Quartet has a straightforward agenda: to keep the spirit of Gypsy jazz alive and expanding in today’s musical universe. Led by violinist Jason Anick and guitarist Olli Soikkeli, the quartet performs dynamic and lyrical arrangements of both Gypsy jazz standards and original compositions that draw upon diverse international rhythms and musical idioms. With Max O’Rourke on second guitar and Greg Loughman on bass, RFQ is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of a vital musical genre. The Wall Street Journal heralds the group as the “…worthiest current day successors to the legacy of the great Django.”
The orchestra will start at 6 p.m., and Rhythm Future Quartet will start at 8 p.m. The park opens at 5 p.m. and admission is FREE!
