Banned Picture Books Discussion

Let’s celebrate Banned Books! This year was marked by an unprecedented surge in the number of books that are being challenged in public and school libraries across the country. Every year libraries celebrate the freedom to read during banned books week which this year is September 18 through 24. Banned Picture Books Discussion Monday, September 19 5:30 - 7:00 PM Large Community Room The Bozeman Public Library would like to introduce a new book club, the Banned Picture Books Discussion. We’ll get together to read a picture book (aloud) and talk about the themes, challenges and responses to the book. This is a great opportunity for you to engage with books that have been challenged and banned. The program is for adults, even though we will be reading picture books, and you do not need to read the books beforehand. You may not agree with either the challenges or the themes presented in the books but we hope every participant is open to a civil discussion regarding the books. Possible books that could include: And Tango Makes Three, Everywhere Babies, Worm Loves Worm, Prince & Knight, This Day be intrin June, King and King, The Lorax, The Family Book, Hop on Pop, Strega Nona, Where the Wild Things Are and many more. The event will take place in the Library's Large Community Room on September 19 at 6:30 PM and will continue on the first Tuesday of every month starting October 4. Questions? Please call the Library at (406)582-2410. The Bozeman Public Library, in partnership with the MSU Library, the Belgrade Community Library and the Country Bookshelf will be setting up displays featuring banned books and we’ll have several events.
