‘Power of Storytelling’ Veterans Day
Montana State University’s Travis W. Atkins Veteran Support Center and the Department of Native American Studies will host, "Veterans Day event: The Power of Storytelling – Keeping History Alive,” at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in Inspiration Hall in Norm Asbjornson Hall. Refreshments will follow, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
A panel of historians, university staff and alumni will share stories with connections to their past and communities. The format was chosen because storytelling – an essential pillar of many cultures, including Native American and military circles – provides insight into the nation's progress and helps preserve culture and tradition.
Panelists include Lisa Perry, MSU’s director of American Indian and Alaskan Native Student Success Services; Dale Martin, assistant teaching professor in the Department of History and Philosophy; and veteran and historian Marcus “Doc” Cravens from University Communications. A special message will be shared by a local veteran and MSU alumnus who served during World War ll. The panel will be moderated by MSU alumnus and Army veteran Joseph Schumacher.
Norm Asbjornson Hall is located at the corner of West Grant Street and South Seventh Avenue.
