Tinworks at Rialto presents Dan Graham’s Rock My Religion (1983–1984) in partnership with Bozeman Film Society’s screening of The Testament of Ann Lee. Together, the films explore the Shaker religious movement in America, and its connection to music, movement, spiritual, and communal practice. The film will be introduced by Jed Logsdon, a local composer, sound designer, and Tinworks team member who often performs under the name Former Lives. Logsdon is drawn to this film which uses the vehicle of rock and roll to draw connection between transcendence and religion achieving catharsis through movement and sound. In Rock My Religion, Graham traces a through line from the Shakers to rock n roll to punk and Patti Smith. This film is not rated and is 55 minutes in length. It is recommended for mature audiences. This event is part of a series that pairs new release feature films with artist films to expand ideas of cinema and contemporary art in the Gallatin Valley.
