Urban Forest Management Plan Public Engagement Meeting

“We’ve had great conversations so far around our urban forest and are grateful for everyone who has given time to this project,” said Alex Nordquest, City of Bozeman Forestry Manager. “This process is not done yet and we’re hoping more people can get involved and share their thoughts. Our community cares a lot about our trees and now is the best time to give us input on how we manage our urban forest.”

The UFMP Update builds on the 2016 framework to ensure sustainable, holistic, and efficient management of the city’s urban forest. The updated plan will guide Forestry Division operations, planning, and public outreach, incorporating professional analysis and community input through meetings with staff, officials, and local stakeholders. Key components of the plan include community engagement; tree infrastructure; staffing and equipment; planning and development integration; and insect, disease, and disaster preparedness.

During the most recent public engagement meeting for the plan update, the project team presented the outline for the 2026 UFMP and launched a survey to capture public input and perspective on Bozeman’s urban trees.

This meeting will kick off the public comment period for the Draft UFMP, which will run from Monday, Aug. 10 to Tuesday, Sept. 8. This comment period will allow interested residents to learn about the components of the updated UFMP, provide input, and review the draft UFMP before it is finalized by the City Commission in the fall. There will be a final public engagement meeting, in person, on Monday, Aug. 31.   For more information on the UFMP Update and to sign up to receive updates, visit the project website athttps://engage.bozemanmt.gov/urbanforest.
