Montana Ballet Company Hires New General Manager to Support Continued Growth

Position made possible through generous funding from the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust

BOZEMAN — Montana Ballet Company (MBC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Edna Mae Berkey as its new General Manager, a key leadership addition that will strengthen operations and support continued growth across the organization’s performance, training, and community engagement programs. The position was made possible through a capacity-building grant from the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust.

Ms. Berkey brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit arts administration, operations, and financial management, with previous leadership roles at Charlotte Ballet, Ballet Memphis, and the Chautauqua Institution. She holds a degree in Arts Administration from The Ohio State University and is known for her strategic approach, collaborative style, and deep commitment to the performing arts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Edna to Montana Ballet Company,” said Melissa Bowman, MBC’s Artistic and Academy Director. “She brings a wealth of experience and insight that will be invaluable as we continue to grow our reach and deepen our impact. Her leadership will allow our team to operate more efficiently and sustainably, ultimately helping us better serve our community.”

The creation of the General Manager role addresses a critical staffing need identified in MBC’s strategic plan and reflects the organization’s continued programmatic and financial growth. MBC has tripled its operating budget over the past decade, added new performances and educational programs, and significantly expanded its Academy and professional company offerings.

“The MJ Murdock Charitable Trust’s support is a powerful investment in the future of the arts in Montana,” said Board Chair Margaret Perryman. “It enables us to build the infrastructure we need to thrive, not just today but for years to come.”

As General Manager, Ms. Berkey will oversee financial and operational systems, manage contracts, support human resources and compliance functions, and provide high-level organizational leadership alongside the Artistic Director.
