Judge Sentences Christopher Foiles to 60 Years in Prison for Homicide of Megan Stedman

BOZEMAN - The Gallatin County Attorney’s Office announces that Christopher Brandon Foiles, 44, was sentenced on November 25, 2025, in Gallatin County District Court to 60 years in the Montana State Prison, without the possibility of parole. Judge Rienne McElyea imposed the sentence after reviewing the plea agreement and hearing extensive, emotional testimony from members of the victim’s family. Foiles received 624 days of credit for time served, meaning he will be approximately 102 years old before becoming eligible for release—a sentence that effectively ensures he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Foiles pled guilty to Deliberate Homicide, admitting responsibility for the killing that devastated the Mitma/Stedman family and the broader Gallatin County community. During the hearing, the Court heard powerful statements from Adrian Mitma, Madison Bender, Jasmine Natava, Maria Mitma, Colia Mitma, Roxy Stedman, and Christina Mitma Momono, each describing the profound and lasting harm caused by Foiles’ actions.

Foiles is also prohibited from contacting any member of the victim’s family and must pay $2,921.37 in restitution. He will be transported to the Montana State Prison to immediately begin serving his term.

“This was a senseless and devastating loss of life, and today’s sentence reflects the gravity of that harm. Mr. Foiles stole a beloved family member from a community that will feel this loss forever. Justice demands that he never again walk free, and the Court’s decision ensures exactly that,” said County Attorney Audrey Cromwell.
