HRDC Activates Code Red Heat Response Sunday as Temperatures Reach 100 Degrees

BOZEMAN – With temperatures reaching 100 degrees on Sunday, HRDC will activate a Code Red at Homeward Point from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide a safe, air-conditioned space for individuals experiencing homelessness during the most dangerous hours of the day.

Normally, Homeward Point opens at 5 p.m. on Sundays. However, due to Sunday's Code Red activation, shelter services will remain open throughout the day to help protect community members from extreme heat exposure.

"Extreme heat can be just as dangerous as extreme cold for people without stable housing," said Heather Grenier, HRDC President/CEO. "By opening our doors during the hottest part of the day, we're simply reducing the risk of heat-related illness for so many community members."

HRDC will continue monitoring weather conditions and may activate future Code Red responses whenever forecasted temperatures reach 100 degrees or higher, depending on staff and funding availability.

Community members can help support Sunday's response in two important ways:

  • ●  Donate cases of bottled water, which will be distributed to guests throughout the day. Water donations may be left at the designated donation drop-off bin outside Market Place Entrance #3 (206 E. Griffin Drive).

  • ●  Make a financial contribution to help offset the additional staffing, utilities, supplies, and operational costs associated with emergency weather activations. Donations can be made at thehrdc.org/donate.

Every donation, whether it's a case of bottled water or a financial gift, helps ensure our neighbors have a safe place to escape dangerous heat.
