January Cover Artist: Ryan Hawk
Inspired by all things magical and otherworldly, Ryan Hawk—also known as Odd Hare—explores the connections between her imagination and the natural systems that shape the world around her. Her bold, colorful graphic style blends her whimsical ideas into a style all their own.
Born in Montana, Ryan carries a deep affection for the landscapes she grew up in and the wildlife that inhabit them. After earning her BFA in Media Arts from the University of Montana in 2016, she began her freelance career supporting local businesses with branding, graphic design, and murals. As her design skills grew, she naturally gravitated toward illustration projects focused on wildlife conservation. This ignited a desire to create her own work and to eventually open her own shop.
In 2021, seeking open space and a slower pace, Ryan moved to the Big Timber area with her husband, and dedicated more time to reconnecting with her artistic identity. A lifelong wildlife advocate, she now incorporates larger-than-life representations of local animals into her work, aiming to highlight the essential—but often overlooked—role they play in their ecosystems. Her inspirations also extend to mysterious folklore, cryptids, video games, and other fantasy-inspired media.
When she’s not creating, Ryan can be found tending to her flower farm in the summer, spending time with her husband and dogs on the ranch, or tucked inside with a good board game or fantasy novel. New to the Bozeman art scene, she looks forward to sharing more of her work and connecting with the community.
