Excellent article Katie. Thank you for capturing and sharing the heart and soul of what this precious sanctuary is all about. It's a sweet reminder of why I continue as a volunteer for the Gentle Giants.
My last year at BB was winter of 1976. I was a magic scraper...they scared me to death. But the powder...oh the powder. The Bowl was magical. School closed at -25; time to ski! Thanks for the memories!

“Roads” or “worlds”, the pathos is about the same, the meaning doesn’t change enough to change the emotional depth one projects into the lyric.
Certainly, I think, “worlds” is the more profound of the two as it suggests the metamorphoses of being in and transitioning through completely different spaces in life, in comparison to having traveled long in many directions.
I think I have heard it both ways, at least I’ve thought it both ways.
Perhaps it is because I like “So Many Roads” so much, I too have conflated those two words in Broke Down Palace, a favorite of mind. “In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will make my bed. Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul”.
Precisely because of this song, I have purposely rolled out my mummy bag next to rivers to sleep. There really seems to be a primal spiritual intertwinement between the life or spiritual essence of the river current and one’s own spiritual essence being drawn along by it, intertwined with it and elevated by it. The song led me to that heightened awareness and sensitivity to relating to a river current. Try it!
I appreciate the Grateful Dead in so many ways, like this, over the years and facets in my life. I am not ready to parse a misspoken syllable in a song as anything more than an exciting new way to discover the song. I’ve heard Bobby and Jerry doit too, for Christ sake.
